The 30th Part 3

For my birthday as many of you know, we set out for Dismals Canyon in N. Alabama on Friday the 13th. That place was spectacular. We camped at Sleeping Water which had its own cave and waterfall. Some of our favorite peoples, the Kerstings and the Chandlers, came down for the celebration too!

and on the way out of the canyon.

The place was pretty spectacular and had alot of history to it. The main attraction is the Dismalites which are tiny little insects that attach themselves to the humongous rocks and at night they glow. We were able to see a good number of them. Apparently the spring is when they are most abundant. After the tour we learned that we had some at our camp site. We found them! There are only two places in the world that has these types of insects, here and in New Zealand.

Thanks again to the Kerstings and Chandlers for making the trip with us...we had a blast!
