Mountain State Fair

Friday night we told the girls we had a surprise for them Saturday. I told them we were going on a hike with no boots, no snacks, and no water. They were semi-excited. So Saturday we got up and ready and started driving. We made it all the way to the parking lot of the fair and they still didn't know until the parking attendant stuck her head in the van and said "Are you girls excited for the fair?" We said well they are now, they didn't know. She felt super bad. But big eyes were happening in the back and they were super excited. This is a big ole timey fair. Super fun. There were cows, sheep, goats, horses, pigs...all kinds of showings and demonstrations. There was also a huge clogging contest, singing contest. Almost like the Mid-South Fair that was in midtown in Memphis way back in the day.

We looked at all the animals, rode rides, watched a lady dangle from the sky on a pole, watched cloggers, singers...saw craft demonstrations, met Smokey the Bear and Mr. McGruff. There was also a big building where you walk through and they have all kinds of vendors and crafty people giving free stuff away. We walked away with 6 bags of pencils, stickers, frisbees, bibles, whistles, ballons, books, baseballs, pins...it was crazy. I spun a wheel at a newspaper booth and won a free reusable bag. Thank goodness cause I was running out of room to hold all that mess.

Little Addison is still to small to ride most of the rides so she was getting a little upset that she couldn't ride the same ones that Ella Kate did. But she still had fun.

We ate a turkey leg, ribbon fries with bacon and cheese, and a corndog. The girls ate ribbon fries, a funnel cake, and cotton candy. The weather was perfect...a cool 63-65 degrees. It was chilly on the gondola that took you all over the park. That was a little chilly way up in the air!

Addison covered head to toe in powder sugar.

She was dying to get in the helicopter! The forest service brought in the fire-planes and helicopters. She was so excited to sit in the cock-pit!

I could make a picture book of them eating funnel cakes throughout their lives.

This one badly wanted to go on the swings Ella Kate was on, so she settled for the little people ones and had a fine time!

Michael didn't ride any rides, he wanted to eat everything he laid eyes on...I rode a swing ride with Ella Kate. Then we saved the rest of the tickets for the girls and we just grazed throughout the day. Was hoping to find some salt water taffy but had no luck. We did have some maple cotton candy that was the best cotton candy I have ever put in my mouth!

So they had a fantastic day and couldn't stop talking about the fair...especially the animals. We went home and laid out. They were super tired that they fell right asleep when we put them to bed...
